Cloisonné is an ancient technique for decorating metalwork objects. The craft can be dated back to the Byzantine Empire. By the 14th century Cloisonné gained a reputation among royalty and the technique spread to China. With a well-developed concept of metals, the art form flourished in both China, Japan and Korea.
